Date MAR. '88

Ref. No. 88-090-3

SUBJECT: FRONT SUSPENSION UPPER STRUT MOUNT NUT CHANGE

MODELS AFFECTED: 1985-88 ELECTRAS 1986-88 LESABRES AND RIVIERAS, AND 1988 REATTAS

Use the following information to update the Front Suspension Section of the 1985 thru 1987 Buick Chassis Service Manuals:

FIGURE 1 - STRUT TO STRUT MOUNT NUT:

The large 24 mm nut that secures the upper strut mount to the front spring and strut assembly (see Figure 1) on 1988 LeSabres, Electras, Rivieras, and Reattas has been changed in production. This new design nut is the same nut that was used on some earlier production vehicles.

FIGURE 2 - STRUT NUTS:

The old design nut, Part Number 22527148, is silver in color and has a flange on the bottom side. The new design nut, Part Number 25526968, is gold in color and does not have a flange (See Figure 2).
If a front strut module is repaired for any reason, the upper strut mount nut must be torqued to the proper value. The 1985 thru 1987 Service Information Manuals improperly stated the torque for the strut mount nut. The non-flanged design nut should be torqued to 75 N-m (55 ft.lbs.). Proper torque on the flanged design nut is 100 N-m (75 ft.lbs.).
