Tape Player - Ignition Noise

SUBJECT: IGNITION NOISE IN TAPE PLAYER
MODELS AFFECTED: 1986 RIVIERAS
Some 1986 Rivieras may exhibit ignition noise in the tape player. This noise may be caused by a grounded condition between the tape player bracket and console. Use the following procedure to correct this condition:
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Pull upper console trim plate straight away to remove.
TAPE PLAYER AND CONSOLE ASSEMBLY:
3. Remove the four (4) screws retaining the tape player bracket to the console (screws labeled 4 in Illustration).
4. Pull tape player rearward and remove and discard the four (4) console U-nuts for the screws referred to in Step 3.
5. Install four (4) plastic nuts, GMWDD Part Number 1370853, in the console mounting holes for the screws referred to in Step 3, taking care to ensure that none of the plastic nuts are cocked or cracked after installation.
6. Reinstall the tape player and four (4) screws retaining the tape player bracket to the console, taking care to install the left upper screw first to ensure proper clearance between the tape player buttons and the opening in the trim plate.
7. Reinstall the upper console trim plate.
8. Reconnect the battery.
