A/C - Reduced Performance During Idle/Slow Speeds
Bulletin 86-1-4ADate
July, '86
Ref. No. 86-122A-1
SUBJECT: INSUFFICIENT AIR CONDITIONING COOLING DURING IDLE/SLOW MOVING TRAFFIC CONDITIONS OR ON STEEP GRADES IN HOT AMBIENTS
MODELS AFFECTED: 1985-86 ELECTRA WITH 3.8L ENGINE 1986 LESABRE WITH 3.0L & 3.8L ENGINES 1986 RIVIERA WITH 3.8L Engine
NOTE: This Bulletin supersedes Bulletin No. 86-1-4, dated June, 1986, for addition of the Riviera model. Please discard the original Bulletin and replace it with this one.
When a 1985 or 1986 model car listed above is operated at high ambient temperatures, with the air conditioning on, and under the operating conditions listed below; the driver may experience intermittent reduced air conditioning performance:
^ Driving up long, steep highway grades.
^ Idling the engine.
^ Driving in congested city traffic.
This reduced air conditioning performance may be the result of insufficient air flow through the condenser core. To improve this air flow, a new coolant fan air conditioning pressure switch, with lower turn on pressure, went into production effective with the following serial numbers:
1986 LeSabre GH405213
1986 Electra G1429394
1986 Riviera GU412363
To repair this condition on vehicles built before the breakpoints listed, replace the coolant fan air conditioning pressure switch with part number 25527510.
