SUBJECT: NEW OIL DRAIN PLUG GASKET TO REPLACE COPPER GASKET
MODELS AFFECTED: ALL 1986 AND PAST MODEL YEAR APPLICATIONS OF 2.0L L-4 (VIN P) AND 2.8L V-6 (VIN W AND X) ENGINES
An improved oil drain plug gasket, Part No. 14090908, is available to replace the copper gasket, Part No. 14079550. The new gasket is a steel washer with captured O-Ring (Viton).
The new O-Ring/Steel gasket is capable of seal ing irregular surfaces with light torques while retaining the clamping load over time. Reuse of the O-Ring/Steel gasket does not lessen sealing or torque retention characteristics.
Recommended torque for the O-Ring/Steel gasket is 12-20 ft.lbs. (16-27 N-m)
Excessively higher torques may cause deformation, splitting, or loss of sealing capability.
