ATTENTION: SERVICE MANAGERS BE SURE TO REVIEW THIS INFORMATION WITH ALL SERVICE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL
1. If the front end panel exhibits excessive blistering, it should be replaced with a service panel.
2. If the paint blisters are located only in isolated areas, the following procedure should be followed:
a. Using a sharp knife, remove the subject blister by carefully cutting around its perimeter. Care should be taken not to gouge the substrate.
b. After removing the blister, measure the thickness of the paint using a 1" micrometer.
c. If the thickness of the paint is less than .014 of an inch, repair the panel using the approved GM refinish repair procedure, as outlined in Section 1-11 in the 1987 Body Service Manual.
d. If the thickness of the paint is greater than .014 of an inch, the panel should be replaced with a service panel, since further blistering is inevitable due to excessive paint film.
