Governor & Speedometer Gear

Inspection & Installation

1. Inspect for plugged oil passage.

2. Inspect governor driven gear for nicks and damage.

3. Inspect governor shaft seal ring for cuts, damage and free fit in groove.

4. Inspect for free operation of governor weights. Weights must operate freely and independently of each other.

5. Inspect governor spring for damage and correct installation.

6. Inspect for the presence of 2 check balls, if equipped.

7. Inspect shaft for damage.

8. If damaged, cut seal ring off governor shaft. Install new seal and lubricate with petroleum jelly.

9. Install speedometer drive gear and thrust washer onto governor assembly.

10. Install governor cover and retaining bolts. Torque bolts to specifications. Make sure governor shaft is piloted in governor cover before torquing retaining bolts.

11. Install speedometer driven gear and retainer and screw. Torque screws to specifications.

12. Install converter. Make sure all shafts are fully engaged.
