REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES FOR QUARTER WINDOW REVEAL MOLDING OR FRAME

THIS BULLETIN IS BEING REVISED TO ADD ADDITIONAL MODEL YEARS AND CHANGE THE BUICK PART NUMBERS. PREVIOUS DIVISIONAL PUBLICATION NUMBERS WERE (see illustration).
The quarter window assembly on 1986-91 "N27" (Coupe) styles can be serviced as individual component parts. The following part numbers are for the quarter window reveal molding and/or frame.
Pontiac - 20659140-1
Oldsmobile - 20659142-3
Buick - 12397026 With B24
Buick - 12397028 Except B24
Buick - 12397027 With B24
Buick - 12397029 Except B24
The following procedure should be followed for waterleak detection or correction, replacement of quarter window and reveal molding or frame and when performing rust repairs and installing paint shield per Service Bulletin 071701. Using this procedure, it is no longer necessary to remove the interior trim or quarter glass.
Removal
1. Tape off body around perimeter of window.
2. Remove roof drip molding.
3. Remove three (3) screws at quarter window reveal molding or frame to body lock pillar.
4. With a putty knife or equivalent, carefully release molding from around quarter window reveal molding and/or frame at clip locations (see View A).
5. Using a putty knife with a sharpened edge and a hammer, carefully cut the urethane bond, between quarter window reveal molding and/or frame to quarter glass (see View B).
Installation
1. Clean urethane from glass and quarter window reveal molding or frame.
2. Prime quarter window glass molding and/or frame with black primer in urethane adhesive kit number 9636067 or equivalent. Allow primer to dry (5 minutes).
3. Apply 3/16" bead of urethane as shown in View C.
4. Remove tape from around quarter window opening.
5. Install quarter window reveal molding and/or frame to body.
6. Install molding and insert.
7. Tape quarter window reveal molding and/or frame to body until urethane cures (6 hours).
8. Clean body and glass.
