Bulletin 87-6E-12

Date Mar. '87

Ref. No. 87-086-6E

Corp. Ref. No. 736303
SUBJECT: ENGINE MAY NOT START WHEN CAR IS PARKED ON INCLINE

MODELS AFFECTED: 1985-87 CENTURYS WITH 3.8L PFI ENGINES (VIN CODE 3)
1987 CENTURYS WITH THE 2.8L MPFI ENGINE (VIN CODE W)
Some 1985-87 Centurys equipped with either 2.8L MPFI or 3.8L MPFI or SFI V-6 engines, may exhibit a no-start condition when parked in a nose down altitude of greater than 15 degrees with less than a quarter tank of fuel.

This condition may be caused by air/fuel vapor ingestion through the vapor rejection port of the fuel pump resulting in fuel starvation.

Vehicles exhibiting this condition may be repaired by installation of an in-tank fuel pump that incorporates usage of a vapor rejection port with an umbrella check valve.

Service kits which include pumps with this feature, are noted below by applicable model year and are available from GMSPO.
