MODELS AFFECTED:
1987-89 CENTURYS WITH 2.8L ENGINES
(VIN CODE W) WITH AIR CONDITIONING
This bulletin cancels and replaced Buick Bulletin 88-1-10.
Some 1987-89 Centurys with a 2.8L engine (VIN code W) and air conditioning may exhibit the subject condition at engine speeds ranging from idle to 1700 rpm.
If customer comments are received on this condition, it may be addressed by the addition of a new mounting brace for the A/C compressor. The part numbers for the brace and the attaching parts and the procedure are as follows:
Parts are expected to be available on May 22, 1989. Until then, normal part orders will not be accepted by GMSPO. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. SPO will make every effort to obtain parts. All parts will be placed on 400 control to waive VIP surcharges. However, the part will be shipped premium transportation at dealer's expense. All other order types will be cancelled as incorrectly ordered while the 400 control is in place.
Procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Loosen the belt tensioner and remove the belt from the A/C compressor.
3. Remove the two front mounting bolts of the A/C compressor.
4. Install the new brace and three new mounting bolts, as shown in Figure 1.
5. Reinstall the belt and tighten the tensioner.
6. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
