Temperature Gauge - Stays In Full Cold Position

SUBJECT: TEMPERATURE GAGE STAYS "PEGGED COLD"

MODELS AFFECTED: 1987 CENTURYS WITH LG3 ENGINE (VIN CODE 3) BUILT AT TARRYTOWN (PLANT CODE T) BELOW VIN HT403081


Some 1987 LG3 equipped Centurys with instrument gage options UJ5 or UJ9 may experience a condition whereby the temperature gage remains "pegged cold" during normal operation. If the vehicle should happen to overheat, the gage on the affected vehicles will "peg hot". Therefore, the gage will either "peg cold" or "peg hot" with no in-between readings.

ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR (INSTALL):




To correct this condition, the temperature switch on the engine must be removed and replaced with a temperature sensor, Part No. 8993146, available from GMSPO (See Illustration).
