SUBJECT: CENTER HIGH MOUNTED STOP LAMP DISTORTION
MODELS AFFECTED: 1987 ELECTRA/PARK AVENUE AND LESABRE
Under unusual driving conditions which result in continuous use of the brake lamps, the top surface of the center high mounted stop lamp could soften from the heat of the bulb. This type of condition is isolated due to the nature of the circumstances which may cause this condition. Heat from the bulb is not normally high enough to cause any case damage in routine use. If, however, the stop lamps are allowed to remain on for extended periods of time, and a high ambient temperature is present, the case can soften and deform from the heat of the bulb.
To reduce the potential for this condition, a revised heat shield was initiated in production in March, 1987. The addition of the larger heat shield also made it possible to modify the staking process to assure a more positive shield retention.
