Governor Assembly






1. Inspect governor cover for damage, scored or worn bore or plugged oil passage.


2. Wash in cleaning solvent and blow out oil passage.

3. Inspect governor driven gear for nicks or damage.

4. Inspect shaft seal ring for cuts, damage and free fit in groove.

5. Inspect weight for freedom of operation.

6. Inspect for damaged, improperly positioned or tilted springs. Some governors use one spring while others use two.

7. Inspect to make sure that the two check balls are in place.

8. Inspect shaft and washer for damage.

9. If damaged, cut seal ring off governor shaft using caution to avoid damaging groove. Install new seal ring on shaft and place seal ring end into governor cover to size seal and lubricate with petrolatum.

10. Lubricate with petrolatum and install the two new seal rings on governor cover. The governor cover seal rings must be well lubricated to prevent damaging or cutting rings. Also, make sure the two check balls are in governor before installation.
