Parking Brake System: Adjustments
1. On 1986 models, apply service brake with force of approximately 150 lbs., then release.
2. On 1987---88 models, apply and release service brake three times with a force of approximately 175 lbs.
3. On all models, fully apply parking brake (may require up to 4 pedal strokes) using approximately 125 lbs. force on last stroke, then release. Repeat procedure 2 more times.
4. Inspect parking brake pedal assembly for full release by observing brake warning lamp.
5. If lamp is on and parking brake appears to be fully released, operate manual pedal release lever and pull down on front cable to remove slack from pedal assembly.
6. Raise and support vehicle and inspect parking brake levers on rear calipers.
7. If levers are not against stops, inspect rear cables for binding and position levers against stops.
8. Tighten brake cable at equalizer until either lever begins to move off stop.
9. Loosen cable until lever returns to stop. Both levers must be resting on stops after adjustment.
10. Operate parking brake several times, ensuring that firm pedal can be obtained by pumping pedal less than 31/2 strokes.
11. Release parking brake and ensure both caliper levers are against stops.
