Ride Height Sensor: Testing and Inspection


1986-87
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Ensure electrical connectors are securely attached to height sensor and body harness connector.
3. Cycle ignition ``OFF,'' then ``ON'' to reset height sensor timer circuits.
4. Disconnect height sensor link from control arm.
5. Move sensor arm up and ensure there is a 7-14 second delay on Brougham models, a 10-14 second delay on 1986 Buick models, an 8-15 second delay on Cutlass, Cutlass Ciera and 6000 models, or a 13-27 second delay on all other models before compressor operates. When strut air boots fill, move sensor arm down to stop compressor.
6. Move sensor arm down below point where compressor stopped and ensure there is a 7-14 second delay on Brougham models, a 10-14 second delay on 1986 Buick models or a 13-27 second delay on all other models before struts begin to deflate and vehicle lowers.
