A/C - Unnecessary Compressor Replacement

87buick10

DCS NO. 88-05 GROUP NO. 1 October 5, 1987
SUBJECT: INSUFFICIENT A/C COOLING AFTER STORAGE ON ALL BUICK MODELS WITH V-5 COMPRESSORS

TO: ALL BUICK DEALERS

ATTN: SERVICE MANAGERS
BE SURE TO REVIEW THIS INFORMATION WITH YOUR SERVICE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL.

We have recently received comments of dealers replacing a/c compressor assemblies due to customer comments of insufficient a/c cooling on Buicks equipped with the V-5 a/c compressor. This condition normally occurs after the vehicle has not been operated for a long period of time; i.e., two weeks or longer.

In the majority of cases, replacement of the V-5 compressor is not necessary. We plan to publish a Dealer Service Bulletin concerning this condition, but in the interim, please refer to a 1985 Dealer Service Bulletin, 85-1-9, for more information. (See 1985 Somerset Regal with 2.5L Engine).
