Bulletin: 87-6D-13

Date: Oct., '87

Ref. No. 87-179-6D

Corp. Ref. No. 749109
SUBJECT: DELCO REMY DIRECT IGNITION SYSTEM (DIS) REPLACEMENT PARTS

MODELS AFFECTED: 1987 SKYHAWKS WITH THE LL8 2.0L L-4 ENGINE (VIN CODE 1) 1987 CENTURYS WITH THE LR8 2.5L LR8 L-4 ENGINE (VIN CODE R) 1987 SOMERSETS/SKYLARKS WITH THE L68 2.5L L-4 ENGINE (VIN CODE U)
Analysis of returned warranty parts has shown that there are virtually no instances in which it is necessary to replace the entire direct ignition system (DIS) coil and module assembly to repair an ignition system malfunction. When the diagnosis procedure given in the vehicle service manual indicates a DIS condition, the procedure should be followed until an ignition coil, the DIS module, or other component part is identified as the cause of the condition. Only the problem component part should then be replaced.

Because of the lack of situations in which the entire DIS coil and module assembly needs replacement, these complete assemblies are being discontinued as service parts. This will apply to past and future model year vehicles, in addition to the above listed applications.

NOTICE: The component parts making up the coil and module assembly will continue to be available as in the past.
