EGR Valve - Driveability Concerns
Bulletin 87-6E-19Date July '87
Ref. No. 87-155-6E
Corp. Ref. No. 736008
SUBJECT: DRIVEABILITY PROBLEMS CAUSED BY EGR VALVE DAMAGE
MODELS AFFECTED: 1987 SKYHAWKS WITH LL8 2.0L OHV ENGINES (VIN CODE 1)
Vehicle driveability symptoms of difficult starting, poor idle, stalling, sag off idle, low-speed surge, low block learn memory (BLM) and closed loop integrator (INT) readings, or idle RPM oscillations of 200-300 RPM can be caused by EGR valve damage.
Verification that the above symptoms are EGR valve damage related are to look for:
1. Obvious tilt of the EGR valve's vertical axis
2. Erratic EGR pintle/stem movement
3. No change in symptoms with disconnected EGR valve vacuum
If observed, replace with the appropriate EGR valve to repair the problem.
Use applicable labor operation.
