SUBJECT: PAINT BLISTERS ON FRONT END PANEL
MODELS AFFECTED: 1987 SKYHAWKS
Some 1987 Skyhawks may have a condition where the paint blisters on the front end panel. It has been determined that this may be caused by excess primer applied in manufacturing. If the blistering is excessive, the panel should be replaced.
If the blisters are located in isolated areas, the following procedure should be used:
1. Using a sharp knife, remove the subject blister by carefully cutting around its perimeter. Care should be taken not to cut into the substrate.
2. After removing the blister, measure the thickness of the paint using a micrometer.
3. If the thickness of the paint is less than .014 of an inch, repair the panel using normal spot repair procedures.
4. If the thickness of the paint is more than .014 of an inch, the panel should be replaced since more blistering will take place due to the excessive paint film.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Use the appropriate Labor Time Guide and Service Manual operations as determined by the results of the above procedure.
