Parts Disposition, Warranty & Owner Letter Information

DISPOSITION OF PARTS

Replaced parts must be held for disposition by Buick Zone or Branch contact personnel. Parts must have a claim tag attached showing the repair order and the VIN of the vehicle from which they were removed.



WARRANTY INFORMATION

List one applicable labor operation. A separate repair order must be used for each vehicle. A complete warranty claim is to be kept as a permanent record of completion.
Dear Buick Owner:

This notice is sent to inform you that Buick Motor Division is conducting a recall campaign that includes your vehicle.

REASON FOR THIS RECALL

General Motors has determined that certain 1988 Buick Century model vehicles equipped with a 2.5L engine may have been produced with a water pump pulley that could fracture. This could result in loss of accessory drive components including power steering assist, generator and water pump. The engine will continue to run, but the driver would be warned of the failure by one or more of the following conditions:

A. Signal by generator light or gauge of loss of voltage.

B. Likelihood of noise at time of failure.

C. Signal by temperature light or gauge if engine overheats.

D. Loss of power steering assist.

WHAT WE WILL DO

To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, the water pump pulley on your vehicle will be inspected, and replaced if required. This service will be performed for you at no charge.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

Please contact your Buick dealer as soon as possible to arrange a service date. Instruction for providing this service have been sent to your dealer. The labor time necessary to perform the inspection is approximately fifteen (15) minutes, but thirty (30) minutes will be required if pulley replacement is necessary. Please ask your dealer if you wish to know how much additional time will be needed to schedule and process your vehicle.

The enclosed owner reply card identifies your vehicle. Presentation of this card to your dealer will assist in providing the necessary service in the shortest possible time. If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please let us know by completing the postage paid reply card and returning it to us.
