SUBJECT:
IMPROVED PERFORMANCE OF THE LOW FUEL WARNING CHIME AND ELIMINATION OF THE EXISTING AMBIGUITY IN TEMPERATURE INTERPRETATION

MODELS AFFECTED:
1987 AND 1988 ELECTRAS/PARK AVENUES AND LESABRES EQUIPPED WITH TOURING CLUSTER (YAZAKI)

The 1987 and 1988 Buick Electras/Park Avenues and LeSabres with touring cluster (Yazaki) may exhibit the following conditions:

1. The low fuel warning chime may not sound until the actual fuel level is below one (1) gallon.

2. The temperature gage system operates such that the gage pointer movement is nonlinear. Present graphics have linearly spaced graduations with temperatures given for the high and low ends of the scale. This has lead to customer misinterpretation of engine operating temperature and requests to dealers for temperature gage repairs (Figure 1 and Figure 2).

The condition was resolved by modifying temperature graphics in such a manner as to clearly indicate engine operating temperature.

To correct conditions 1 and 2, it will be necessary to remove the cluster and send to an AC-Delco Service Center for an exchange unit.
