SUBJECT: REVISED BACK WINDOW ASSEMBLY

MODELS AFFECTED: 1986-89 LESABRE COUPE (H-37)

A revised back window glass assembly, Part Number 20748587 (tinted) or 20748588 (tinted and rear window defogger) for the 1989 Buick LeSabre, went into production at Buick City on Wednesday, May 17, 1989, VIN 1G4HP14C6KH518140.

The new glass assembly includes a more aggressive design proving a better fit to the sheet metal body on the sides and top edge of glass. A new 30.0 mm lower lip, along the bottom edge of the glass, eliminates the lower reveal molding.

The old glass assembly, part number 20745202 or 20745204, have been deleted from service because it will not work as a replacement part for current production. The welded on mounting stools for the back window lower reveal molding have been eliminated. Replacement on LeSabre vehicles built prior to VIN 1G4HP14C6KH518140 will also use the new glass assembly (20748587 or 20748588). This can be done by removing the hat section stools used for mounting the lower reveal molding.

The following steps should be performed for glass replacement:

1. Remove back window assembly as described in the Body Service Manual, Section 3-2.

2. Cut back window lower reveal molding stools.

3. Flatten sides of stools flush to body.

4. Apply body seam sealer or equivalent to stools to prevent corrosion.

5. Install new glass to vehicle and water test.
