Some 1988 and 1989 Electra and LeSabre Estate wagons may have a tailgate ajar lamp that comes on or stays on intermittently. This condition may be repaired by replacing the right lower tailgate latch and switch assembly. The new latch and switch assembly, is part number 16607735 and is currently available from GMSPO.

The new latch and switch assembly is a direct replacement for the prior assembly, but has internal design features to address the intermittent lamp condition.

When replacing the latch and switch assembly, make sure to refer to the Service Manual Body Section 10-7 for proper installation and tailgate alignment procedures.
