7. Clean all gasket mating surfaces, cylinder head bolt holes in block and bolts.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Cylinder head gasket on block.
CAUTIONS:
^ This engine uses special torque to yield head bolts. This design bolt requires a special tightening procedure. Failure to follow the given procedure will cause head gasket failure and possible engine damage.
^ Should you reach 81 Nm (60 lbs ft) at any time in Steps 3 and 4, you should STOP. Do NOT complete the balance of the 90° turn on this bolt.
2. Apply GM P/N 1052080 sealant to cylinder head bolt threads and tighten to 34 Nm (25 lbs ft) in sequence shown in figure 6.
3. Tighten each bolt 1/4 turn (90°) in sequence.
4. Tighten each bolt an additional 1/4 turn (90°) in sequence.
5. Pushrods, guide plate and rocker arm assemblies. Apply GM P/N 1052624 to rocker arm pedestal bolts before assembly and tighten to 38 Nm (28 lbs ft).
6. Intake manifold.
7. Valve covers.
8. Exhaust manifold.
9. Front (Left) Cylinder Head:
^ A/C compressor bracket bolt and tighten to 70 Nm (52 lbs ft).
^ Alternator support bracket to cylinder head and alternator.
^ C3I and spark plug wires.
10. Rear (Right) Cylinder Head:
^ Belt tensioner assembly.
^ Power steering pump.
^ Fuel line heat shield.
11. Negative battery cable.
Inspect For
^ Correct oil and coolant levels.
^ Fluid leaks.
