SUBJECT: HIGH EFFORT TO OPERATE DOOR LOCKS
MODELS AFFECTED: 1988 BUICK REGALS
Customer comments of increased effort to operate door locks on some 1988 Buick Regals may be due to a binding inside door lock knob and slider mechanism (especially on early built units with Slate Gray colored plastic parts on trim panels). This condition can be repaired by replacing the lock knob, slider and retainer which are parts of the inside handle cup on the door trim panel.
The procedure and new replacement part numbers are as follows:
1. Remove the screw cap, screw and handle cup.
2. Disengage clips on slider and knob retainer and remove all three parts from the handle cup.
3. Install new slider, knob and retainer while making sure that red band is on lower end.
4. Reinstall handle cup, screw and screw cap while making sure that the lock rod end is aligned with the lock knob.
