WATER OR DUST LEAKS IN THE TRUNK AREA

MODELS AFFECTED:
1988 REGALS


Some owners of 1988 Regals may comment about water or dust leaks in the trunk area. This condition may be resolved by sealing certain areas as described in the following procedure.

1. Remove rear wheels and rear splash panel (fender skirt).

2. Clean all the areas to be sealed. Wire brushing may be required to remove mud and sand in seams. Rinse the affected area of weld flange, clean from both sides, inside the rear compartment and underside of the wheelhouse.








3. Using appropriate applicator gun apply a heavy bead of Flow Grade Pumpable Sealer (3M (R) Joint and Seam Sealer # 08648 or equivalent) into opening formed by quarter outer panel and wheelhouse outer panel as shown in Figure 1 (R.H.) and Figure 2 (L.H.).








4. As shown in Figure 3 (R.H.) and Figure 4 (L.H.) apply sealer all around the wheelhouse flange (eyebrow area) from outside (underside the wheelhouse).





5. From inside the trunk, apply Flow Grade Sealer (3M (R) Flow Grade Resealant # 08633 or equivalent) to cover wheelhouse to quarter panel joint, Figure 5 for the R.H. side.
