SUBJECT: BLOWN STOP LIGHT FUSE WITH V56 OR V58 LUGGAGE RACK

MODELS AFFECTED: ALL 1986-88 BUICKS, EXCEPT SKYHAWKS, WITH FACTORY INSTALLED V56 OR V58 LUGGAGE RACK

A condition may be encountered where the stop light fuse blows and it is difficult to locate the point of contact or short circuit. On cars equipped with Option V56 or V58 luggage rack, the cause could be the feed wire to the center mounted stop lamp contacting the lamp holder bracket. The wires are routed inside of the lamp assembly such that they could contact the lamp holder bracket and melt into the insulation and short out.

A new wire assembly, Part Number 16505618, has been released which has a higher temperature resistant insulation. To repair the condition, a new wire assembly should be installed. Route the wire away from the lamp brackets and do not clamp or pinch it during reassembly.

Connect the wiring and be sure the routing is clear and the grommet is seated.
