Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
The following procedure should be performed with engine temperature over 120° F, otherwise the oxygen sensor may be difficult to remove.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect the oxygen sensor electrical connector.
3. Carefully back out the oxygen sensor.

INSTALLATION
1. Coat threads of oxygen sensor with anti-seize compound if necessary [1].
2. Install and torque the sensor to 41 Nm (30 ft lbs).
3. Install the electrical connector.
4. Install the negative battery cable.

[1] Replacement sensors should have a special anti-seize compound applied to threads. If a replacement sensor is lacking anti-seize compound or original sensor is to be reinstalled, coat threads with suitable anti-seize compound.
