Date: Sept., '88

Ref. No.: 88-231-3

Corp. Ref. No. 833403

SUBJECT: REAR STRUT SQUEAK/CLUNK NOISE

MODELS AFFECTED: 1988 REGALS

Some 1988 Regals may exhibit a squeak and/or clunk type noise coming from the rear of the vehicle which may be audible in the passenger compartment.

These noise conditions may be attributable to rear strut assemblies that were produced between date code breakpoints (see illustration for location of date code) indicated below by the type of noise that may be heard:

Type of Noise Date Code Breakpoints

Clunk 15087 - 04688
Squeak 01688 - 08688

In addition to confirming struts were produced between suspect date code breakpoints, vehicle should be physically jounced/rebounded repeatedly at each rear corner to confirm noise can be generated prior to strut replacement.

Replacement strut units required for this repair are available from GMSPO.
