Engine: Service and Repair














Remove or Disconnect

1. Remove hood and cover fenders.
2. Depressurize and disconnect fuel lines from fuel rail.
3. Negative battery cable.
4. Air intake duct.
5. Upper engine strut
6. Throttle cable bracket and cables from throttle body.
7. Raise car and suitably support.
8. Engine coolant.
9. Exhaust pipe from rear exhaust manifold.
10. Engine mount bolts.
11. Starter wiring and starter.
12. A/C compressor and set aside.
13. Power steering hoses at steering gear.
14. Lower transaxle to engine bolts.

Important
^ One bolt is located between the transaxle case and engine block and is installed in the opposite direction.

15. Flywheel cover.
16. Flywheel to torque converter bolts.
^ Use a scribe to mark flywheel to torque converter relationship to assure proper reassembly.

17. Engine support bracket at transaxle.
18. Lower car.
19. Radiator hoses.
20. Heater hoses at engine.
21. Vacuum modulator and canister purge lines.
22. Engine wiring harness.
23. Remaining transaxle to engine bolts.
24. Engine Assembly.

Inspect
^ For inspection and overhaul procedures.


Install or Connect

1. Lower engine assembly in car.
^ Be sure to line up torque converter and flywheel marks.

2. Top transaxle to engine bolts and torque to specs.
3. Engine wiring harness.
4. Radiator hoses.
5. Heater hoses.
6. Upper engine strut
^ Raise car and suitably support.

7. Remaining transaxle to engine bolts.

Important
^ One bolt is located between the transaxle case and engine block and is installed in the opposite direction.

8. Engine support bracket at transaxle.
9. Torque converter to flywheel bolts
^ Be sure to line up the marks made at disassembly
^ Tighten bolts to 63 N.m (46 lbs. ft.)

10. Flywheel dust cover.
11. Power steering hoses at steering gear.
12. A/C compressor.
13. Starter and wires.
14. Engine mount bolts.
15. Exhaust pipe.
^ Lower car.

16. Serpentine belt
17. Air intake duct.
18. Vacuum modulator & canister purge lines
19. Engine coolant.
20. Negative battery cable.

Inspect
^ Oil level
^ fluid levels
^ Fluid leaks
^ Proper completion of repairs
