Strut Remove/Replace
Strut Assembly Mounting:
Modifying Seal Protector J-34754:
TOOLS REQUIRED
^ J-34754 Outer seal protector (modified).
REMOVAL
1. Remove the three nuts attaching top of strut assembly to body.
2. Raise car and suitably support opposite end from which components are being removed.
3. Place jack stands under suspension support.
4. Lower car slightly so the weight of the car rests on the jack stands and not the control arms.
5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
CAUTION:
^ Care must be exercised to prevent Tri-Pot joints from being over-extended. When either end of the shaft is disconnected, over-extension of the joint could result in separation of internal components and possible joint failure.
^ Drive axle joint seal protectors should be used any time service is performed on or near the drive axles. Failure to observe this can result in interior joint or seal damage and possible joint failure. The J-34754 Seal Protector must be modified as shown.
6. Install modified outer seal protector J-34754.
7. Remove the brake line bracket from strut assembly.
8. Remove the strut to steering knuckle bolts and the strut assembly from car.
CAUTION:
^ Steering knuckle must be supported to prevent axle Tri-Pot joint overextension.
^ Care should be taken to avoid chipping or scratching the spring coating when handling the front suspension coil spring. Damage to the coating can cause premature failure.
