Engine: Service and Repair


1. Remove hood, then disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain cooling system, then remove radiator and heater hoses.
3. Remove upper engine torque strut, then engine cooling fan.
4. Remove air intake duct from throttle body, then vacuum hosing to all non-engine mounted components.
5. Remove fuel lines. Refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE/RELIEVING FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE for fuel pressure bleed procedure.
6. Remove all cables from throttle body, then cable bracket.
7. Remove serpentine drive belt, then disconnect all necessary electrical connections.
8. Remove power steering pump from mounting bracket. Position pump aside.
9. Remove upper transaxle to engine bolts, then raise and support vehicle.
10. Remove A/C compressor. Position compressor aside.
11. Remove engine mount to frame nuts, then exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
12. Remove flywheel dust cover, then flywheel to converter bolts. Mark torque converter and flywheel to assure proper assembly.
13. Remove lower engine to transaxle bolts. One bolt is located between transaxle case and engine block and is installed in the opposite direction.
14. Lower car, then install engine lift fixture.
15. Remove engine.
16. Reverse procedure to install, torquing all bolts/nuts to specifications.
