Steering Column - Removal and Installation

Removal

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove lefthand sound insulator.
3. Disconnect column wiring connector.
4. Remove park lock cable from ignition switch.
5. Remove bolt connecting steering shaft to intermediate shaft.
6. Remove column lower mounting nut and bolt.
7. Remove column upper mounting bracket bolts, then the column.

Installation

Fig. 11 Steering Column Installation.:

1. Install column assembly in vehicle and upper column bolts loosely, Fig. 11.
2. Install lower column nut and bolt loosely.
3. Install intermediate shaft coupling to column shaft and torque bolt to 35 lb ft
4. Torque column mounting bolts to 20 lb ft
5. Connect park lock cable to ignition switch.
6. Connect column wiring connector.
7. Install lefthand sound insulator, then connect battery ground cable.
