SUBJECT: DOOR JAMB SWITCH CORROSION AND NEW DOOR JAMB SWITCH SERVICE PROCEDURE - REPLACE DOOR JAMB SWITCH AND JUMPER HARNESS
MODELS AFFECTED: 1984-89 REATTAS
Some early 1988 Reattas may exhibit door jamb switch corrosion leading to any of the following comments:
^ Unwanted theft alarm
^ Unwanted interior light operation
^ Battery drain
To eliminate switch corrosion, a new style door jamb switch with integral jumper harness was phased into production on 1988 model Reattas and will be used on all 1989 Reattas (see illustration). Cars built with both old and new style door jamb switches should be serviced with the new switch and jumper harness, Part Number 3520112, which is currently available from GMSPO. Cars with the new switch and jumper harness will require a new switch service procedure should the door jamb switch require service.
Service procedure for old style door jamb switches:
1. Remove one screw and pull door jamb switch out.
2. Disconnect door jamb switch.
3. Connect new door jamb switch with integral jumper harness.
4. Remove carpet retainer and move carpeting from kick panel area to expose wiring harness.
5. Pull door jamb switch harness and jumper connection through quarter panel and into the instrument panel area.
6. Install door jamb switch and screw.
7. Carefully push excess wiring into instrument panel area.
8. Reinstall carpeting and carpeting retainer.
Service procedure for new style door jamb switches:
1. Remove carpet retainer and move carpeting from kick panel area to expose wiring harness.
