SUBJECT: SLOW AIR LEAKS AT TIRE WHEEL WEIGHTS (PROCEDURES/NEW PART)
MODELS AFFECTED: 1988-1990 REATTAS
Some 1988-1990 Reattas may exhibit a condition of slow air leak at a wheel weight. To determine if a tire is leaking at the wheel weight, use the following procedure:
1. Remove wheel and tire assembly.
2. Inflate tire and wheel assembly to 276kpa (40psi).
3. Dip assembly into water bath to locate leaking.
4. If there is a leak at the wheel weight area, remove the weights and clean the rim flange.
5. Recheck tire/wheel assembly for leaks.
6. If okay, rebalance the wheel with an adequate amount of adhesive wheel weights (part number 14080297).
IMPORTANT: Adhesive wheel weights should be applied to the inside flange of the wheel only.
7. If the tire still leaks, index the tire 180 degrees, rebalance and check for leaks.
If the leak is due to porosity of the wheel, follow the procedure listed in the Chassis Service Manual.
