SUBJECT:
NYLON COATED WHEEL WEIGHTS

MODELS AFFECTED:
ALL 1985-89 BUICKS WITH CAST ALUMINUM WHEELS

This bulletin cancels and replaces Dealer Service Bulletin 87-3-4.

Buicks equipped with cast aluminum wheels now use new nylon coated clip-on wheel weights. These balance weights provide a much better appearance and are used on both the outboard and inboard rim flanges. They will not discolor, corrode or damage the appearance of the wheel, as may have been the case in the past with uncoated clip-on weights used on aluminum wheels. These nylon coated balance weights will fit most GM cast aluminum wheels. (Refer to illustration)

There are two series of these weights available through GMSPO, in 1/4 oz. increments ranging from 1/4 oz. to 3 oz. Usage is shown.

Dealers should make sure they have a supply of these weights for balancing aluminum wheels.

When installing the coated weights, care must be taken so that the nylon coating does not crack. It is recommended that a Teflon tipped hammer be used, such as 85403 Nicholson Industrial Hammer, their part number CAS 3340551, available through the Charles Strelinger Company, Warren, Mi. (313-268-4100), or equivalent.
