SUBJECT: INTERMITTENT OPERATION OF STEERING WHEEL RADIO CONTROLS (REPLACE BRUSHES/SPRINGS REVISED MODULE)

MODELS AFFECTED: 1989-90 REGAL COUPES AND '91 REGAL SEDANS WITH OPTION UK3

CONDITION:

The radio controls located in the steering wheel pad may work intermittently. The buttons on the radio receiver can still be used to control the radio functions.

CAUSE:

(1) There may be a corrosion build up between the turn signal switch brushes and springs because of the plating process on the brushes.

(2) The translator module located at the base of the steering column may be misinterpreting the signals from the steering wheel pad. A revised translator module with a higher electrical gain is available from GMSPO.

CORRECTION:

(1) Replace the brushes and springs in the turn signal switch using kit, P/N 10456442.

(2) Check to see if the translator module is an old version with a white date code stamp. If the color of the stamp is white, install a revised module, P/N 26014179 in the vehicle. The new part received from GMSPO should have a blue stamp on it.
