1. Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove defroster grille and air outlet deflectors, Fig. 70.
4. Remove instrument panel accessory trim plates.
5. Remove ten instrument panel trim pad attaching screws, Fig. 71.
6. If vehicle is equipped with Twilight Sentinel, pop up photocell retainer, and remove photocell by turning counterclockwise.
7. Slide instrument panel trim pad out far enough to disconnect aspirator hose and electrical connector from in-car temperature sensor.
8. Remove instrument trim pad from vehicle.
9. Remove left and right side sound insulators, Fig. 72.
10. Remove steering column filler, Fig. 73.
11. Remove four steering column support bolts, then lower column.
12. Disconnect brake release cable from parking brake.
13. Disconnect fuse panel and ALDL connector from instrument panel, Figs. 74 and 75.
14. Disconnect instrument panel harness interconnect.
15. Disconnect antenna lead and side window defogger hoses.
16. Remove instrument panel attaching screws, located at the top of the instrument panel, Fig. 76.
17. Remove two instrument panel attaching bolts at top of steering column opening.
18. Remove two instrument panel attaching bolts, located on bottom right and left sides of the instrument panel.
19. Remove two instrument panel to center support attaching bolts.
20. Pull instrument panel straight out.
21. Reverse procedure to install.
22. Reactivate airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
