Accessing Codes

After diagnostic service mode is entered, any trouble codes stored in computer memory will be displayed. ECM codes will be displayed first, then BCM codes (ECM codes are prefixed with an E, BCM codes with an B, IPC codes with an I and SIR codes with an R). On 1989 Reatta and Riviera and 1989 Toronado, codes will be accompanied by Current or History. History indicates the failure was not present the last time the code was tested and Current indicates the fault still exists. On Toronado and Trofeo models, if at any time during the display of trouble codes the Lo fan button is pressed, the display of codes will be bypassed. Also on Toronado and Trofeo models, any time the Bi-Lev button is pressed, the BCM will exit diagnostic service mode and return to normal vehicle operation. On Reatta & Riviera models, if at any time during display of trouble codes the No pad is touched, the display of codes will be bypassed; any time the End or Level pad is touched, the CRT will exit diagnostic service mode and return to normal vehicle operation. On all models, refer to wiring diagram and connector pin locations, refer to SCHEMATIC DIAGRAMS/ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC DIAGRAMS, and proceed to the applicable code diagnosis.
