Engine: Service and Repair


1. Relieve fuel system pressure as follows:
a. Disconnect fuel pump electrical connector from fuel tank, then start engine.
b. After engine stalls, continue to crank for three seconds to ensure relief of any residual pressure.
c. Turn ignition off and reconnect fuel pump electrical connector.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then the air intake duct.
3. Remove throttle cable bracket and throttle cables from throttle body.
4. Drain engine coolant.
5. Raise and support vehicle.
6. Remove exhaust pipe from rear exhaust manifold, then the engine mount bolts.
7. Disconnect starter wiring, then remove starter.
8. Remove A/C compressor and secure aside.
9. Disconnect power steering hoses at steering gear.
10. Remove lower transaxle-to-engine bolts. Note location and direction of bolts for assembly reference.
11. Remove torque converter dust shield, scribe alignment mark between converter and flexplate and remove converter bolts.
12. Remove engine support bracket at transaxle.
13. Lower vehicle, then disconnect radiator hoses and heater hoses at engine.
14. Disconnect vacuum modulator and canister purge lines.
15. Disconnect engine wiring harness, then remove remaining transaxle to engine bolts.
16. Attach lifting equipment to engine and support transaxle.
17. Raise engine, separate engine from transaxle and remove engine from vehicle.
18. Reverse procedure to install.
