Front Wheel Speed Sensor

Fig. 61 Front Wheel Speed Sensor:

If the sensor mounting bracket bolts are loosened or removed, the sensor gap must be adjusted. If the sensor is removed without loosening or removing the mounting bracket bolts, it is not necessary to adjust sensor gap. If the wheel speed sensor is removed from the mounting bracket, the sensor must be coated with GM anti-corrosion compound 1052856, or equivalent.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect sensor electrical connector from underhood, near strut tower.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Disconnect sensor cable grommet from wheelwell, then remove sensor cable from retaining brackets.
5. Remove sensor, or if necessary, remove mounting bracket and sensor assembly from vehicle, Fig. 61.
6. Reverse procedure to install. Adjust sensor as follows:
a. Loosen front wheel speed sensor mounting bracket bolts so that bracket is snug to knuckle but can be moved by hand.
b. Using a feeler gauge, adjust sensor (between the tip of the sensor and one of the teeth on the toothed sensor ring), to .020 inch by moving bracket.
c. Torque mounting bracket bolts to 9 ft. lbs.
d. After tightening, check sensor gap.
