SUBJECT: ACCELERATOR PEDAL BUZZ/VIBRATION (RESECURE ACCELERATOR CABLE PER ILLUSTRATION AND PROCEDURE)

MODELS AFFECTED: 1990 REGAL WITH 3.1L ENGINE (VIN CODE T)

CONDITION

Some 1990 Regals with 3.1L engines may exhibit an accelerator pedal buzz/vibration condition. This buzz/vibration will be felt through the drivers foot and will be most noticeable while accelerating at higher engine speeds.

CAUSE

The buzz/vibration is due to engine vibrations being transmitted from the accelerator cable support bracket to the accelerator cable and back through to the pedal.

FIG # 1 ORIGINAL ROUTING OF ACCELERATOR CABLE:

FIG # 2 REVISED ROUTING OF ACCELERATOR CABLE:

CORRECTION

To repair this condition, it will be necessary to remove the accelerator cable from its support bracket and resecure it outside of the support bracket, per the following figures and instructions.

1. Remove support bracket cover.
2. Remove T.V. and accelerator cables from support bracket.
3. Reinstall T.V. cable in its original position in the bracket and reinstall the bracket cover.
4. Using (2) black plastic tie-wraps secure the accelerator cable to the T.V. cable at the two locations shown in Figure # 2. Clip excess length off tie-wraps.
5. Check routing of accelerator and T.V. cables to ensure that there is ample clearance between the cables and the throttle linkage. The accelerator cable must be routed on the outboard side of the heater hose (reference the attached figures) to ensure proper clearance.

CAUTION: Throttle cable interference with the throttle linkage during vehicle operation could result in loss of accelerator control.
