Power Locks: Testing and Inspection
The door lock system was designed to prevent unlocking of the door using a flat tool. This system requires close tolerance on connecting, lock and push rods in addition to specific rods for each different application. In order to properly evaluate the lock system after a replacement part such as a rod, lock cylinder, pawl or bell crank has been installed, the following operational checks should be made.
Inspect
1. Insert key into cylinder. While holding the key in the neutral (pull-out) position, actuate the inside locking button to the fully locked position and back to the fully unlocked position. There must be no forced movement of the key out of neutral position during the entire cycle. (The key must be able to be removed when the inside locking button is held in both fully locked and unlocked positions).
2. Turn key to fully locked position and return it to the neutral (pull-out) position. Actuate either the outside or inside handle to ensure that the door will not open.
3. Turn key to the fully unlocked position and return it to the neutral position. Actuate either the outside or the inside handle to ensure that the door will open.
