Fuel Injector(s) Replacement




Fuel Rail Assembly:





CAUTION: Use care in removing injectors to prevent damage to the injector nozzle tips and the electrical connectors. The fuel injector is serviced as a complete assembly only. Since it is an electrical component, it should not be immersed in any type of cleaner.

REMOVAL:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Relieve the fuel system pressure, see MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
3. Remove the fuel rail assembly, see FUEL RAIL ASSEMBLY.


Multi-Port Fuel Injector:





4. Remove the injector retaining clip and discard.
5. Remove the fuel injectors.
6. Remove the O-ring seal from both ends of the injectors, and discard.

NOTE: Different injectors are calibrated for different flow rates. When ordering new fuel injectors, be sure to order to order the identical part number that is inscribed on the old injector.

INSTALLATION:

1. Lubricate new injector O-ring seals with clean engine oil, and install them on the injectors.
2. Install new injector retaining clips on the injectors.
^ Position the open end of the clip facing the injector electrical connector.
3. Insert the injectors into the fuel rail assembly.
^ Push the injector in far enough to engage the retainer clips with the machined slots on the injector socket.
4. Install the fuel rail assembly to the manifold, see FUEL RAIL ASSEMBLY.
5. Connect the negative battery cable.
6. With the engine OFF and the ignition ON, check for fuel leaks.
