Throttle Position Sensor: Service and Repair
MPFI Throttle Body:
NOTE: The throttle position sensor is a component of the Computerized Engine Control System, for diagnosis and testing procedures see COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS/DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING.
REMOVAL:
1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the throttle position sensor.
2. Remove TPS attaching screws and retainer.
3. Remove the throttle position sensor.
INSTALLATION:
1. With the throttle valve in the closed position, install the throttle position sensor on the throttle body assembly, making sure the TPS lever lines up with the TPS drive lever on the throttle shaft.
2. Install the TPS retainer and attaching screws, finger tighten only.
ADJUSTMENT:
3. Install three jumper wires between the TPS and the harness connector or use a SCAN tool.
4. With the ignition ON, use a digital voltmeter connected to terminals B and C and adjust TPS to obtain 0.40 +/- 0.02 Volts.
5. Tighten the screws to 2.0 Nm (18.0 lb.in), then recheck to insure the adjustment has not changed.
6. With the ignition OFF, remove the jumper wires and connect the harness to the TPS.
