Instrument Cluster / Carrier: Service and Repair
Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING prior to working on or near the steering column. After completion of repairs, rearm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove upper trim pad, Fig. 19, as follows:
a. Remove defroster grille, then the A/C outlets from upper trim pad.
b. Remove instrument panel trim plates, then 10 instrument panel pad retaining screws.
c. On models equipped with twilight sentinel, pop up photocell retainer, then remove photocell by turning counterclockwise.
d. On all models, slide panel pad out far enough to disconnect aspirator tube and in-car temperature sensor electrical connector.
e. Remove pad.
3. On models with analog cluster, Remove steering column filler panel, Fig. 20, then disconnect shift indicator cable from steering column.
4. On all models, remove five instrument cluster attaching screws, then the cluster, Fig. 21.

Park Avenue
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove right and left side sound insulators.
3. Remove instrument panel lower trim plates, Fig. 22.
4. Remove air vent deflectors, then three glove box attaching bolts.
5. Remove five instrument panel trim plate attaching screws, then trim plate.
6. Remove seven lower instrument panel trim pad to instrument panel attaching screws.
7. Slide rubber collar up steering column, then slide clip off with gear selector as shown in Fig. 23.
8. Remove five instrument cluster to instrument panel attaching bolts, then pull cluster straight out.
9. Reverse procedure to install.
