TRANSMITTER

PKE Transmitter:

The transmitter unit is a battery powered, water resistant, radio frequency signal generator. Two transmitters are provided with each vehicle and each is uniquely recognized by the receiver module. The receiver module is capable of recognizing only two transmitters, therefore only two transmitters may be used with any one vehicle. Replacement transmitters for the vehicle may be obtained, however the receiver module must be programmed to accept the new transmitter.

This system allows one transmitter to be matched to as many different factory equipped RKE vehicles as the owner chooses. Each car, however, can only have two transmitters matched to it. To program several cars to one transmitter, follow the reprogramming procedure for each of the vehicles using the desired same transmitter. (Note: If two cars are matched to one transmitter, care should be taken when cars are parked near each other).

Battery Replacement

The remote transmitters for the RKE system require periodic battery replacement. Battery life under normal operation should be approximately two years. The back side of the transmitter contains a cover providing access to the battery compartment.

RECEIVER MODULE

The RKE receiver module is located in the trunk attached to the rear package shelf for the Riviera, behind the left rear quarter trim panel for the Reatta and clipped to the lower crosscar support brace for the Reatta Convertible. The module performs the functions of interpreting the signals from the transmitter and activating the required circuits to produce the requested functions. The receiver module is able to differentiate between the various transmitters, and must be programmed to accept signals from both transmitters if one or both are to be replaced.

NOTICE: The receiver stores transmitter recognition information in non-volatile memory, therefore it does not need to be reprogrammed due to a battery disconnect.

Automatic Door Locks (ADL)

The receiver module also provides the function of Automatic Door Lock for equipped Rivieras and Reattas.

ANTENNA

The antenna for the Riviera and hardtop Reatta RKE system is fired into the vehicle's backlight, using a material similar to the rear window defogger grid. It is located at the upper edge located in the black-out paint and is connected to the receiver module by coaxial cable. For the Reatta Convertible, the antenna is pressed into the upper windshield garnish molding and connected to the receiver module by coaxial cable.
