1. Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Turn ignition to the Off position, then remove fuse No. 14 from fuse panel.
4. Remove left side sound insulator retaining screws and nuts, Fig. 101.
5. Disconnect courtesy lamp from insulator panel and remove from vehicle.
6. Disconnect position assurance (CPA) and yellow two-way (SIR) harness connector at base of steering column, Fig. 93.
7. Remove instrument panel cluster trim plate retaining screws, then remove plate from vehicle, Fig. 102.
8. Remove center air duct assembly.
9. Remove 13 instrument panel cluster retaining screws, then pull cluster outward from instrument panel, Fig. 103.
10. Remove two headlamp switch to instrument panel retaining screws, then disconnect headlamp switch electrical connector and remove from vehicle.
11. Remove four electronic climate control head retaining screws, if equipped.
12. Remove climate control electrical connector then the climate control assembly.
13. On models equipped with integral radio unit, proceed as follows:
a. Remove radio/ECC retaining screws, Fig. 104.
b. Remove radio bracket to radio retaining nuts.
c. Disconnect radio electrical connectors and remove radio from vehicle.
14. On models equipped with cassette tape/compact disc, remove holder from rear console storage compartment.
15. Remove two outer and three inner console trim plate retaining screws, then the trim plate.
16. On models equipped with CD player, proceed as follows:
a. Remove CD trim plate from instrument panel.
b. Disconnect two CD player electrical connectors accessed through ashtray, Fig. 105.
c. Remove two T-15 Torx retaining screws to CD mounting bracket, then pull player and bracket forward.
d. Remove two 10 mm bracket to CD retaining nuts.
17. On all models, remove two front storage compartment retaining screws, then the storage compartment.
18. Remove right side sound insulator retaining screws and nuts.
19. Disconnect courtesy lamp from panel and remove sound insulator from vehicle.
20. Remove six knee bolster retaining screws, then remove bolster from vehicle.
21. Remove four steering column reinforcement plate retaining screws, then remove plate from vehicle.
22. Remove glove box door and glove box unit retaining screws.

23. Remove three upper trim pad retaining screws, then pull trim pad up and out of retaining clips to remove from vehicle, Fig. 106.
24. Remove lower left side instrument panel retaining bolt.
25. Remove hood release retaining screws.
26. Remove two instrument panel brace retaining screws, then the brace.
27. Remove four inflator module retaining screws located on back of steering wheel assembly.
28. Remove inflator module from vehicle. When carrying a live inflator, ensure the bag and trim cover are pointed away in case of accidental deployment. Do not carry inflator module by wires of connector on underside of module. When placing a live inflator module on a bench or other surface, ensure the bag and trim cover faces in a upward direction. Never rest steering column assembly on the steering wheel with the inflator module face down and column vertical. This is necessary in case of accidental deployment. Otherwise, personal injury may result.
29. Disconnect ignition wiring and multi-function switch electrical connectors.
30. Remove pinch bolt from intermediate shaft.
31. Remove upper and lower steering column support brackets, then remove steering column from vehicle.
32. Remove lower right instrument panel retaining bolt and three upper instrument panel retaining screws.
33. Disconnect instrument panel electrical connectors, then remove instrument panel from vehicle, Fig. 107.
34. Reverse procedure to install.
35. Reactivate airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
