On-Vehicle Pressure Testing
Possible Leak Areas:
1. Tighten the radiator hose clamps and heater hose clamps.
2. Inspect the connections for leaks. Repair as required.
WARNING To avoid being burned, DO NOT remove the radiator cap while the engine is at normal operating temperature. The cooling system will release scalding fluid and steam under pressure if the cap is removed while the engine and radiator are still hot.
3. Remove the cooling system cap.
4. Fill the cooling system to the base of the fill neck.
5. Attach J 24460-01 to the fill neck.
^ Follow the instructions supplied with J 24460-01.
6. Build up pressure to no more than 138 kPa (20 psi).
7. The system should hold the pressure for about two minutes.
^ If a measurable amount of pressure drops in less than two minutes, check for a leak
^ Mark the leaking area and remove radiator for repair.
