Engine Removal

1. Disconnect battery cables, then drain cooling system. For additional procedures refer to Cooling System / Service and Repair / Draining and Refilling. Service and Repair
2. Remove air cleaner assembly, including air flow duct from throttle body, then all necessary wiring. Refer to Vehicle / Locations / Connectors / Pictorial Views for harness locations. Locations
3. Remove hood, then disconnect throttle, T.V. and cruise control cables. Refer to Components / Accelerator Controls, Engine Compartment under Throttle Cable/Linkage. Locations

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury, always relieve fuel system pressure prior to disconnecting fuel system components.

4. Remove fuel lines. Refer to Fuel System Pressure Relief Procedure for fuel pressure bleed procedure. Service and Repair

5. Remove crossover pipe from manifolds, then serpentine drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt / Service and Repair. Service and Repair
6. Remove radiator and heater hoses from engine, then A/C bolts at front bracket.
7. Remove power steering pump and position aside, then remove alternator, if necessary.
8. Remove brake booster vacuum supply line, then EGR at exhaust, if equipped.
9. Raise and support vehicle, then remove A/C compressor from engine.
10. Remove flywheel cover.
11. Remove starter, then torque converter bolts.
12. Remove transaxle bracket.
13. Remove engine front mount retaining nuts, then lower vehicle. Refer to Engine Mount / Locations. Locations Refer to Engine Mount / Service and Repair. Engine Mount
14. Remove engine torque strut(s), then bulkhead connector.
15. Support transaxle, then remove transaxle attaching bolts.
16. Attach suitable lifting device to engine, then remove engine from vehicle.
