Removal and Replacement
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove air cleaner assembly.2. Drain cooling system, then disconnect heater core hoses using clamp tool No. J-37O97 or equivalent
3. Disconnect TV cable from throttle lever and transaxle.
4. Remove fluid level indicator and fill tube.
5. Install engine support fixture tool No. J-28467-A, or equivalent.
7. Remove wire amess to transaxle attaching nut, then disconnect electrical connectors from speed sensor1 TCC connector, park/neutral and back-up lamp switch.
8. Disconnect shift linkage from transaxle. Remove two top transaxle to engine attaching bolts, then the left upper transaxle mount and bracket assembly.
9. Remove transaxle to vent pipe rubber hose, then the remaining upper engine to transaxle attaching bolts.
10.Raise and support vehicle, then remove both front wheels.
11. Drain transaxle fluid, then remove shift linkage and bracket assembly.
12. Install drive axle boot seal protectors No. J-34754 or equivalent on inner seals, then disconnect both ball joints from control arms. Failure to install seal protectors can result in seal damage and possible joint failure.
13. Remove both drive axles.
14. Remove transaxle mounting strut, then left stabilizer bar link pin bolt.
15. Remove left stabilizer bar frame bushing clamp attaching nuts, then the left frame support assembly.
16. On models equipped with 4 cylinder engines, disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold.
17. On models equipped with V6 cylinder engines, remove front exhaust manifold and pipe.
18 Disconnect speedometer connector from transaxle, then remove starter motor, if necessary.
19. Remove transaxle converter cover, then disconnect and plug transaxle cooler lines.
20. Mark relationship of flywheel and torque converter to ease installation, then remove converter to flywheel bolts.
21. Remove transaxle,to engine, support bracket, then position a suitable jack below transaxle.
22. Remove remaining transaxle to engine attaching bolts, then lower trans- axle from vehicle.
23. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque ball joint-to-knuckle to 55 ft lbs; engine-to-transaxle brace to 31 ft lbs; flywheel-to-torque converter to 35 ft lbs; stabilizer links to 13 ft lbs; starter to 32 ft lbs; starter bracket to 24 ft lbs; torque converter cover to 115 in lbs; transaxle mount strut to 31 ft lbs; transaxle-to-engine to 55 ft lbs; upper transaxle mount bracket to 38 ft lbs; upper transaxle mount-to-transaxle to 31 ft lbs.
